With 1.8 million inhabitants, Hamburg is Germany’s northernmost international trading centre. With the third-largest harbour in Europe, Hamburg is a hub for overseas trade and a nodal point for commodity flows to the Nordic countries. The city had a successful 2018. According to Oxford Economics forecasts, Hamburg’s economy is expected to have grown by 1.7% in 2018. At the same time the unemployment rate declined further to 5.9% by year-end.
